"This is definitely a very feel good book. The author writes like she personally knows the reader. Often making references to thanking her or telling us how proud she is of us. To be honest, I like all of the positive vibes I get from this book. It even has a mantra which I love and adding one line to. I do make sure I repeat it daily and it gives me a sense of hope. The content is well written and it does cover all the domains and competencies. The only thing it is missing is a practice test. This book does not have a practice test. That is kind of a big deal for me. Yes you can get a short practice test from the TEA website but the more you practice... I still like the book. It is an easy, pleasant read with not too much jargon thrown at you. Make sure to buy it with plenty of time to read it. You don't want to read this all in one sitting. Way too much information for that. If Barbara could add a practice test in, this would have been a 5 star rating. I haven't taken my test yet. If I don't pass...I will update and remove a star. But with my mantra, the knowledge from this book, and the practice test from the TEA website I think I am going to ACE this test!"

I bought this book because of the reviews that I had read. This book is written in a supportive, feel-good manner and the author really triesto make it a fun/funny experience. The content seemed to be an overview of what the competencies were. In it, the author starts to really delve into each competency and describe its implications and the ways of thinking that you should approach situations/scenarios/questions. It would not be wise to read this book to look for the "right" answers, but rather, to gain insight into the perspective of how each competency should inform your decision making. There are some general strategies to approach questions in one of the latter sections. If you've ever taken a big test, these should be no surprise, but couldn't hurt to brush up on if it's been a while. Pay particular attention to the 1-2-3-4 Plan strategy as it can be applied to many questions on the actual 068 Principal Exam (scenario based). Also, at the end of every chapter is an overview and key points. Don't forget to go over those especially the morning or hours before the test.
The part that I was struggling with most was the AEIS reports and how to read them. There wasn't a lot of help that I received from my university preparation program in that area. Luckily, I didn't have very many of those questions on the actual test. That shouldn't mean that you shouldn't study for that part though. There will be at least one set of questions that focuses on that. There is a section, "No Data Left Behind", that focuses specifically on that. Not only does it calm your nerves a bit, but it also gives a lot of good information about how to read those kinds of reports! The author gives a couple of ideas to keep in mind as you look through those things.
Initially, I took a pretest exam using the certifyteacher . Com website. When I've studied before for a certification exam that website really showed me where I needed to study(competencies that I didn't do so well in). I used this book to help me understand those concepts . My study plan was the following took the pretest, looked at the certify teacher study plan, study my most deficient areas, retake those individual quizzes on the certifyteacher website, move on to the next competency.
Honestly, I feel like I could've done better but I passed so that's all that matters. I studied for a total of maybe two and a half weeks before the test using this book and just reading through the competencies that I did not perform well on. I skimmed through the sections that I had performed well in but made sure to look over them just in case. I would say that this book is worth the purchase. - This is definitely a very feel good book. - Certification exams are no joke. A colleague of mine that had already successfully completed the TExES 068 exam had suggested this book as well as reviewed the first edition before the 2nd was released. She swore by it, and after going 50 pages in, it really has gotten my mind right. The book will focus your thoughts on what the "ideal principal" would do. It is a very easy read and the information is written in a way that is easy to keep going without feeling exhausted from the educational jargon.
- Anyone who is planning to take this exam needs to read this book, not once, but twice. It is very insightful with a touch of humor and a dash of sarcasm, which kept me entertained and attentive. Everything she said as far as how to dissect the questions on the exam was accurate, and the key words she highlighted were also on point. I appreciated her words of encouragement throughout the book as well. I took this exam twice; the first time I took it, I didn't read this book, and failed. The second time I took it, I passed, and I believe this book was what helped.
- If you are taking the TExES Exam to get your Texas principal's certification, you need to get this book. Is packed with all the information you will need to be well prepared. I passed the test on the first try, so I highly recommend it!
- Passed the test first time out using this guide along with the TEXES guide and Lamar University materials. I enjoyed how the book offered great tips on test taking and understanding what the question is asking. I would recommend this book to others studying for this test.
- The exam is now based on scenarios of "What would you do in this situation." If you want to understand the domains, this book will help to clarify them. I enjoyed the book from the motivational aspect. I DID pass the test on the first try, but I do NOT believe it helped with that. Spend the time before the test reading rules and regulations on SBDM, ARD, and other hands on issues you will deal with as a principal. Read this book after passing the test before taking your first job as an administrator.
- I wish I had this book the first time. I’m not someone who typically is unsuccessful on exams. The first time I scored a 238 and with the help of this book; I scored a 259 after reading this book! A definite recommend.
