A young widow returns to Lake Sackett, Georgia to face the ghosts of her past—and decide if she’s ready to take another chance on love—in the third sparkling Southern Eclectic novel that “goes down as easy as honey on a deep-fried Twinkie” (Library Journal, on Sweet Tea and Sympathy).
Lucy Brewer would never have guessed that her best friend, Duffy McCready (of McCready’s Bait Shop & Funeral Home) has been in love with her since they were kids. Fear of rejection and his own romantic complications prevented Duffy from confessing his true feelings in high school, so he stood by and watched her wed Wayne Bowman right after high school. Wayne had always been a cheapskate, so it comes as no surprise when he suffers a fatal accident while fixing his own truck.
Even as her family and friends invade Lucy’s life and insist that the new widow is too fragile to do much beyond weeping, Lucy is ashamed to admit that life without Wayne is easier, less complicated. After all, no one knew what a relentless, soul-grinding trudge marriage to Wayne had been. Only Duffy can tell she’s hiding something.
In need of a fresh start, Lucy asks Duffy to put his cabinet-building skills to use, transforming the town's meat shop into a bake shop. As the bakery takes shape, Lucy and Duffy discover the spark that pulled them together so many years ago. Could this finally be the second chance he’s always hoped for?
Once again Molly Harper “writes characters you can’t help but fall in love with” (RT Book Reviews) in this charming and entertaining love story.

"Molly Harper is an auto buy author for me. Her books hit just the right spots. However, this one is already my 3rd favorite (after the last Jane and Single Undead Mom). I renewed my membership in the Bad Decisions Book Club with this one.
Lucy is an awesome foil to Duffy and completely relatable. Duffy reminds me so much of the men in my life. And the McCreadys are so funny. But they really needed a Lucy in the family and Lucy needs them. I also liked seeing how the characters from the previous books continue to develop.
But the best is the acknowledgement that people go through difficult times. That they have emotions to deal with in order to function well. And that dealing with those emotions mean that people occasionally need help. The assistance characters sought from counselors/mental health professionals was shown as just a step towards better relationships and functioning. That is how it should be. Kudos to Molly Harper for showing this. I have read other books where that doesn't happen and it's unacceptable to me. Sex or a relationship doesn't fix your problems. Why shouldn't books reflect that?
Any way, awesome book. So happy. Planning to get audio so I can listen to it as well because Amanda Ronconi is A+++ with the Southern Electic series. Just read (or listen)!"

Gimme Some Sugar Southern Eclectic Molly Harper 9781501151354 Books Reviews
- There were a lot of amazing things about this book, but there was a major downer--I want the cupcakes mentioned or the recipes. The author had me drooling with some of the combos. Talk about major teasing. Where is this bakery? And if not Gimme Some Sugar than the model for the bakery. I see a road trip in my future. I WANT CAKE!! I WANT COOKIES!! I WANT THEM NOW!!
For those of you that are like me and read everything "Molly Harper" then you are very familiar with Duffy. Can I just say it is about time that the man had real love and found his Happily Ever After. The long strange relationship with his ex-wife was just all kinds of wrong.
For those of you that haven't read the rest of the series I must ask why in the world have you not picked up the books and laughed until your side hurts. After all that is what happens when you read a book by Molly Harper. I went crazy highlighting McCready wisdoms and smart comments that I plan to use on my children in the future.
So here is what was so amazing, wonderful about this book.
Second chance romance--Lucy and Duffy were best friends all through school.
Small town romance--Lake Sackett is the epitome of small town, barely surviving after the lake was
almost drained dry.
A love that could not be denied--Lucy and Duffy fell in love in high school but were afraid to act on it
until now.
Romantic comedy--so many great laughs thanks to colorful characters.
A long running series--I get to fall in love with the characters each and every time I pick up a book.
Characters to despise--The author has to ability to create characters that I love to hate, that make me
feel icky
Leaves me wanting MORE!!!!! That is what makes it a 5 star read--I didn't want it to end. It is like
sitting in the theater watching the credits roll hoping for another glimpse, a few
more minutes of entertainment. - Molly Harper is an auto buy author for me. Her books hit just the right spots. However, this one is already my 3rd favorite (after the last Jane and Single Undead Mom). I renewed my membership in the Bad Decisions Book Club with this one.

Any way, awesome book. So happy. Planning to get audio so I can listen to it as well because Amanda Ronconi is A+++ with the Southern Electic series. Just read (or listen)! - This is the long awaited story of Duffy. FINALLY he finds a girl who is perfect for him and stands up to his nasty ex.
Lucy and Duffy have known each other all of their lives. They both fell in love with each other while in high school but were afraid to tell each other because they were best friends and didn’t want to ruin their friendship. They both started to date and sadly married the wrong people. Fast forward 10ish years and Duffy has a chance at forever with Lucy again.
So we get a wonderful story filled with laughter, flawed humans and a woman who is trying to make a new life in her childhood hometown. - I love all the books in this series and this was no exception. The author does a spectacular job defining her characters, giving each unique style, attitude, and dialogue. The family dynamics are wonderful--and I get such a kick out of the humor and "southernisms!" I was really glad she chose to get Lucy and Duffy's relationship going early in the story so that I could enjoy some time with them together. It is such a bummer to go through the trenches with a couple and have the book end with their first kiss! I'm ready for the next one!! Please??
- I have read everything that Harper has published. I love her story telling style - it’s witty, a bit silly, smart and well put together. This book is completely on brand with the exception of some uncaught typos. As usual her protagonist is relatable, smart and fun. Her villains are believable bad guys who show a glimmer of ability to be redeemed, without that being an obligate part of the story.
- At first, I was thrown by the switch in POVs because I couldn't remember the rest of the series doing that, but you know what? I FREAKIN' LOVED IT. It was nice to get inside Duffy's head. And DUDE, the frosting scene was hysterical. I had tears in my eyes! Great book! Another masterpiece by Molly Harper!
- I sure do love this series. Every time a new book comes out I go back and read the rest of the series. I love the whole McCready family.
Contoured a favor and read the entire series. It is sweet and funny and an awesome way to spend an afternoon in Lake Sackett. - Gimme Some Sugar is a delightfully quirky addition to a delightfully quirky series. Duffy and Lucy get together in this fun second chance romance that is sinfully sweet. I truly love this series and really enjoyed this installment.
