- Just finished Succubus 3, and AJ Markham hit another home run. Nerdy Ian, our LitRPG Warlock, is back in fine form, as is our super hot succubus, Aleria. Book 3 takes a different tack than the first two in the series. A selfish mistake causes Aleria and Ian to breakup, forcing some painful growing up for our lovelorn Warlock. Broken hearted over his loss, Ian must learn some hard life lessons about himself, relationships, love, and life in general, even if the life he is living is within an RPG electronic game. As Ian struggles with his lessons, Markham entertains us with a great story and a great RPG through a dungeon. I was so caught up in the dungeon, I kept reaching for my own polyhedral die to take a turn as Ian and new friends fight their way to the end of the game for treasure or wisdom. Outside the dungeon, Ian saves an honest to God Angel, a busty, beautiful, blonde bombshell named Meera, who opens an entirely new plot line replete with hot sex and B&D excitement. On the hook to a wharf mob boss for 4,000 gold, the cost of repairing the Revenge air ship damaged in Book 2, Ian is desperately seeking plunder and repeatedly going though the dungeon robbing the dead and seeking what gains he can find all while dealing with his loss of Aleria and a very demanding and skilled fighting Angel who wants to be slutty. As if this isn’t enough, when Hell whore Aleria meets the bird slut angel, well, you will have to discover for yourself how hot a good vs evil sex off can be.
Can Ian escape from the mob boss? Can he find 4,000 gold and buy himself out of debt? More importantly, after the good vs evil sex off, can Ian win back Aleria? Dude, read the book and find out. - OK, its not high art. Its not supposed to be. Its entertaining, and at times has some excitement and some wry humor. I'd give it more stars, but the series' fatal flaw is really evident here the main character and his plight is just not believable or sympathetic. Even if you suspend belief and say fine, he's fallen in love with a character in a computer game- ok. Great. Lets take the premise at its value. To then be that big of a prude while knowingly "dating" a succubus- by definition a sexual demon- and expect or even want monogamy, and yet be turned on and hop into bed with every frost elf, nymph, pirate, angel, and water elemental that crosses your path is just silly. I get that you need to create some adversity for the character to deal with, but to use the desire for a monogamous relationship with a succubus as the source of it is just not a believable route to go. No man would do that, knowing deep down that (a) the succubus WANTS you to be promiscuous, and (b) its a game character anyway. What would be the end goal there anyway? Marriage? The premise reduces to ad absurdum on its own.

No one can survive stocks that long! - While is was inevitable for it to come to this point, the following journey took some interesting turns that leads to a satisfying ending. While suffering from his immense insecurity over losing the woman he loves, Ian does the one thing that even her former masters never did and inevitably caused him to lose her. Spiraling down a pit of depression and self-hate, he ends up in the arms of an angel that was battle with her own insecurities much like our boy. The most interesting part of this book is the message that everyone should pay attention to "if you truly love someone then you would never go about changing them." Although , I am most curious about how far the Star Wars reference will go in regards to Ian and Vorkus. Also, I wonder if we will ever see Dorp again.
- Well the first book had Bad Guys, the second book had really really Bad Guy and of course Good Guys, and everything in between. The third book has a few more Bad Guys, a few Surprises which I was not expecting and if You are lucky me you will enjoy them also. I have read A.J. Markham book , Succubus A Christmas Special, but You don't have to read that book in order to understand His first book or the other ones that follow. As soon as I finish this review, I'm starting Book 4. Well I just finished Book 3, and believe Me it's just as good as His first 2 books. So now it's on to Book 4.
If You just want to sit back and enjoy a fantasy book I recommend start reading one of A.J. Markam books. Well written & very enjoyable. You can almost picture Yourself there with all of the characters.
