Callie is having a baby shower in a restaurant. Suds is her security, lucky is there with a comm unit even thought it’s his day off.
Callie and Blake head for the bathroom downstairs. Callie hears two guys (who sound like they were on the Sopranos) talking about taking someone. She knows it’s her. She lets them leave the men’s room, leave behind them, see them tying the wrists of the guests, leave out the front doors and chain them closed.
They find Suds in the walk I freezer in the kitchen, they all smell gas, Blake heads to the dining room to cut the ties off and just in time Suds tells them to head for the basement and how to get out of the basement from the next building.
Almost immediately there is an explosion, while Lucky is outside. He comes to see the building in ruins and burning. The police must force him to leave the fire.
The wives and Suds did make it into the other building, but not out. All the husbands are with Lucky on the street. (They were all in town so the wives had the shower.) The firemen hear the voices so they now everyone is alive.
When they finally make it out alive, Callie is loaded into an ambulance. Too late she realizes one of the paramedics is one of the men who chained the front doors of the restaurant closed . . . and the ambulance drives off with her. While she is in the ambulance she finds out they think she is Izzy. Now she is worried they will get rid of her since she isn’t Izzy. Now she tells them her family has money too. But they are worried about the Patten “Blue Plains†project."

- Stella Marie Alden did it. Lucky II is now my all-time favourite book of hers, but, dang it, I nearly blew a gasket when I read the first few chapters. I swear I nearly sent an email to Stella saying what the heck with Lucky???
After calming my bum down, I read on and sigh.... dear readers, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is not something to scoff about or hide. If you have it, please get help, if you know someone who shows the signs, reach out and show you care.
There are a lot of veterans who we see as strong, alpha males (and female)--we think that they are badass, that they can handle a lot after having gone a tour or two, so we tend to shy away when they show weakness or aggression, but we must understand that they can, and most often than not, have emotional scars.
Hats off to Ms. Alden for giving us an understanding of what PTSD is about through Lucky and Calliope's story. Bravo!
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily giving my review. - I read the reviews prior to purchasing this book and they were excellent. This book was not for me though. It lacked passion, I did not fall in love with the characters and I was not thrilled with the plot. I read the whole book, but it just did not do it for me.

But they are worried about the Patten “Blue Plains†project. - Lucky’s wife Callie is pregnant. At the baby shower, which is being held in a restaurant, there is an explosion that levels the building. Thinking he has lost her for sure, he begins to have flashbacks of his time in Afghanistan. Luckily, Callie along with four other ladies and their bodyguard Suds were able to follow a tunnel between the restaurant and the building next to it and escape to safety, albeit buried in the rubble. When Callie is found alive, Lucky is relieved but it doesn’t last long as she is kidnapped by a man posing as a paramedic. The men taking her believe she is someone else, but when they find out who she is they immediately realize she is just as valuable. They are able to rescue her from the kidnappers but the stress of the explosion and her being kidnapped bring back Lucky’s nightmares and hallucinations. The stress causes problems between the two, which is made worse by Callie’s mother who is sure Lucky is not good enough for Callie. Callie’s mother texts Lucky using Callie’s phone telling him that she wants him to leave her alone and not to call or text her anymore. Heartbroken, Lucky does as he is asked thinking Callie no longer wants him and that he is not good enough for her and she and the baby are better off without him. This leads to Lucky thinking the only thing to do is reenlist. Through the help of their friends Callie is able to get Lucky to talk about his issues and the two are able to resolve their problems, Lucky stays with her and they get to have their happy ending after all, surrounded by their friends who are more like family.
I received an ARC copy of this book and I am leaving my honest review voluntarily. - Lucky and Callie’s story continues..... Wow! This book was so good! I had such a book hangover after reading “Lucky†that I was thrilled to be able to read the sequel. Callie and Lucky are blissfully in love with their life and each other when an explosion rocks their world. Callie is trapped and then kidnapped while being taken to the hospital. Lucky is devastated and wracked with guilt which brings out some long buried memories of his time in the service. Even after her rescue, he continues to decline and sends her to stay with her conniving, manipulative mother. Her underhanded behavior nearly destroys them both and Lucky continues his downward spiral. Fortunately, Callie refuses to let go and the result is a novel filled with undeniable love, determination and the courage to do and be better for those who love you. As always, this couples amazing friends rally around and stand tall to help save one of their own. This book was impossible to put down and I highly recommend it.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
